Many who read The Diary of Anne Frank would recall Kitty; the imaginary recipient of Anne’s deepest thoughts and musings. Set in contemporary Amsterdam, Kitty comes to life one night and embarks on a journey to find her dear friend. Diary in hand, Kitty dodges police and befriends refugees, all while striving to learn what truly happened to Anne.
Directed by Ari Folman (Waltz with Bashir, 2006), this beautifully animated feature hops between the present and the past to present a thoughtful retelling of Anne’s story that will probe useful discussions on the Holocaust and the ongoing modern refugee crisis.
