Useful companion piece to our current Senior Cycle German film, Two to One/Zwei zu Eins, this exciting drama is set in 1979, when citizens lived under the Communist regime and aspired to plotting their way out into the West. Where Zwei zu Eins presents communities emerging from the regime after the Wall has come down, desperate to enjoy some prosperity in the soon to be united Germany, this earlier-set tale follows the true story of Günter Wetzel and Peter Strelzyk, preparing to risk their lives. No longer able to endure the repressive East-German regime, they plan to escape using a homemade hot air balloon. Working with their families, the duo are against immense time pressure, as an ongoing Stasi investigation looms.
